Dublin Port Tunnel | Dublin Ireland

Difficult ground conditions on the approach to a new tunnel serving the Port of Dublin were overcome by using the lightweight solution Leca® LWA. Around 5,000m³ of Leca® LWA was used to form a new one metre high embankment for the spur road on the approach to Dublin Port Tunnel.

Consulting engineers Mott MacDonald, of Glasgow, specified the material in order to guard against excessive settlement where the new road passes over an area of former waste ground with poor loadbearing capacity.
